Sedona Creative Community — Arts Organizations in Northern Arizona
The Sedona Arts Center is one of Northern Arizona’s oldest creative arts organizations. The Arts Center was founded in 1958 by Egyptian sculptor Nassan Gobran and a group of local artists to spark creative inspiration in Sedona and promote a broad range of artistic expression. Within just a few years the Center was alive with art classes and community events that fanned the flames of arts and culture in Sedona. The Center offered classes in a dozen different arts and crafts, hosted chamber music and recitals, offered lectures, exhibited world famous artists (many of whom taught at the Center including famed Surrealist Max Ernst), produced live theater performances, sponsored dance and poetry readings and even served as the home of the first films offered to the public in Sedona.
Through the years the Arts Center and Sedona’s blossoming reputation as an artistic community became a magnet for artists and collectors from around the world. Eventually arts organizations spun out or sprung up in the community to focus on specific interests and to develop collaborations with artists with similar goals.
The Sedona Arts Center celebrates the success of the many organizations in Sedona and the surrounding communities in Northern Arizona that have found their voice. We encourage our friends and members to support each of these organizations in their efforts to advance the visual, literary, functional, performing and film arts.
