Description
The Ginkgo tree is a living fossil, the only example of it’s species to survive after the Pliocene. It’s leaves have long been used for medicial purposes, most commonly for memory enhancement. The tree is exceptionally hardy-the most extreme example seen in Hiroshima, Japan, where six trees growing between 1-2km from the 1945 explosion were among the few living things in the area to survive the blast. The ginkos, though charred, survived and were soon healthy again and are alive to this day.
This cross is a symbol of the tenacity of memory-the accumulated information that is handed down through the centuries, and on a personal level, largely creates who we are.
