Description
The town of San Miguel Allende, Mexico, was founded by Franciscan monks in 1542. It was an important stopover on the Antiguo Camino Real, part of the silver route from the plains of Zacatecas. It was declared a national historic monument in 1926 and as a result, the center of the city still retains much of its beautiful Spanish Colonial archetecture such as, La Parroquia, the cathedral of St. Michael the Archangel. This cross combines Spanish and indigenous design influences.
