Description
Jenga Rock
This photo of Jenga Rock was shot in early September 75 minutes before sunset, when the rock gets good edge lighting. Jenga Rock is named after the popular game in which wood blocks are removed from a tower, creating a progressively more unstable structure. Jenga rock is also known as Edge of the World Scenic Rock. People can access the lower layers of Jenga by jumping across a four-foot gap. The board in the lower center of the image shows the gap. The jump should only be attempted by the young and fit; a fall would be fatal. Rock climbers can reach the top of Jenga Rock, or you can bring a ladder. The view of Sedona from Jenga Rock is spectacular with Thunder Mountain visible in the background. To get to Jenga Rock from Flagstaff, take the good road FR 231 south to a small parking area at 34.98082, -111.82696. Wildflowers often abound along the route in late summer. From the parking area, hike south for about 100 yards to a viewpoint of the rock.
