Description
The name Christopher means “Christ-bearer” which has been applied to several differnt real or legendary persons throughout history. He may be the same figure as the Coptic Saint Menas.
His most famous legend, which is mainly known in the West, tells that he carried a child, who was unknown to him, across a river before the child revealed himself as Christ.
Therefore, he is the patron saint of travelers, and small images of him are often worn, carried, or placed in vehicles for protection and safe travels.
