Very litte is known of St. Ninian, but it is believed that he came to Scotland as a Christian missionary in 397 AD from Ireland. He is acknowledged as Scotland’s first sainty.
Ninian settled in what is now county Galloway in the early trading community if Whithorn. As early as the 7th century, people have made pilgrimage to the shrine of St. Ninian at Whithorn, believing in the Saint’s power to cure illnesses and perform miracles.
