The Camargue Horses at Dawn

The Camargue horse is an ancient breed indigenous to the Camargue are in southern France. It is generally considered one of the oldest breeds of horses in the world. They live in the harsh environment of the Camargue marshes and wetlands of the Rhône delta. The Camargue horse is the traditional mount of the gardians, the Camargue “cowboys”. Camargue horses galloping through water is popular and romantic image of the region. This image was shot at sunrise looking northeast over  the saltwater lagoon “Étang de Malagroy”. The Mediterranean Sea is a few miles to the south.
